GPR Scanning for Spillway Gate Hoist Installation

The client was retroffitting this dam spillway's gate hoist system and needed to know the layout of reinforcing steel in the concrete deck for anchorage design. The curvature of the deck and embedded rails from the previous gate actuation system created a challenging scanning setup. 

VL engineers performed hundreds of shortened scans around the embedded obstacles and recreated a reinforcement layout drawing that showed the exact location of each bar in the dam crest. The drawing was used to specify an anchorage system that avoided contact with the dam reinforcement.
