Clarifier GPR Survey

Spalled concrete with exposed reinforcing steel was observed by plant technicians along the base of the clarifier walls. Voss Labs was contacted to determine the cause of corrosion and investigate the condition of the clarifier walls.

Voss Labs engineers performed a comprehensive concrete inspection program consisting of:

• Visual inspection

• Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR)

• Delamination survey

• Chloride content testing

• pH testing

GPR scanning was performed at multiple heights of the clarifier walls with a focus on identifying areas of inadequate concrete cover which was also linked to areas of corrosion and spalling. 

Voss Labs Engineers were able to provide a detailed map of deficient reinforcement cover, corrosion-related deterioration, and delaminated areas, establishing a basis for prioritizing concrete repairs, corrosion mitigation, and long-term maintenance of the clarifier structure.
