Hydropower Projects
Voss Labs has inspected, tested, and extracted cores from over 100 dams and spillways - helping to assess and repair these crucial infrastructure assets.

Spillway Dam Concrete Evaluation
Voss Labs worked with the client, a large California utility, to assess the condition of this spillway dam structure. VL engineers performed a visual inspection, gpr scanning, core extraction, and laboratory testing of cores.

Dam Repair - Bond Testing
A concrete arch dam had experienced years of freeze-thaw cycling. Voss Labs was involved in the repair process to evaluate quality substrate preparation, evaluate the repair bond strength, and ensure a durable repair is achieved.
Voss Labs performed assessment and testing of 3 spillways near San Francisco, CA. Inspections consisted of non-destructive testing, concrete coring, and laboratory testing of cores.

Dam Liner Investigation
Voss Labs performed inspection and testing of a dam located in Tuolomne County, CA. The client was evaluating the condition of the upstream face. VL engineers performed mock-up anchorage testing to aid in the design selection of a protective liner.

Outlet Structure Assessment & Repair
The spill control structure had been subject to cycles of freeze-thaw deterioration. Voss Labs performed condition assessment, core extraction and testing, and repair specification development to help rehabilitate the structure.

Penstock Saddleblock Inspections
Voss Labs inspected hundreds of concrete saddle blocks and anchor blocks that support essential penstock runs. Inspections were performed to identify at-risk areas for repair and monitoring.

Flume Repair - Bond Testing
An elevated flume crossing had experienced deterioration over its 100 year life. Voss Labs performed the condition assessment and subsequent quality bond testing of repairs per ASTM C1583.

Gate Hoist Radar Scanning
The client was upgrading the gate hoist system and needed to know the location of reinforcement in the platform slab. Voss Labs performed systematic surface penetrating radar scanning to create reinforcing maps for design of the new mechanical system.
