Voss Labs performed assessment and testing of a digester at a wastewater treatment plant in Southern California. The client was interested in understanding the extent of corrosion occurring on reinforcements within the concrete. Powdered concrete samples were collected and tested for chloride concentrations and rebar was exposed and examined in the field.

Here, Voss Labs performed nondestructive testing via surface penetrating radar to assist the client in determining concrete cover measurements as well as the location of reinforcing steel.

Voss Labs performed a condition assessment and laboratory testing. It was determined that chlorides had been cast into the deck slab, causing widespread corrosion, delamination, and spalling. Voss Labs supported the repair process by performing tensile pull off testing (ASTM C1583) of the prepared substrates and repaired areas - ensuring a quality repair process.

Voss Labs investigated the 100+ year old concrete within this structure in the San Francisco Bay Area. The concrete had been exposed to a saltwater environment from the bay as well as a sewer environment. They worked in parallel to degrade the concrete and Voss Labs was able to assist in repair recommendations.
